BioGENEius Challenge of WA

2010 BioGENEius Challenge

Ailsa Brown (year 11) from Perth Modern School and Clare Moran (year 10) from St Hilda's Anglican School for Girls were announced the 2010 BioGENEius WA finalists in March 2011.

Ailsa and Clare travelled to Washington DC, to attend the International BioGENEius Challenge finals in June 2011.

Ailsa's project investigated the link between Alzheimer's disease, testosterone and the repeat length of the CAG nucleotides of the androgen receptor gene. Ailsa was mentored by Professor Ralph Martins and Dr Simon Laws from Edith Cowan University.

Clare's research looked at clarifying how paraspeckles work in gene expression. Clare was mentored by Dr Archa Fox, Head of the Cancer Gene Expression Laboratory at the WA Institute for Medical Research.
