Reconciliation action plan
Reconciliation Australia launched an initiative to challenge government, business and industry to make a formal commitment to overcome Indigenous social and economic disadvantages and help forge positive relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people through the implementation of a reconciliation action plan (RAP). The RAP tool provides a format for organisations to clearly identify actions, set realistic goals and identify the lessons learnt during the process of implementing the identified actions.
The Department of Commerce is committed to building positive and valuable relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people through strategies based on respect, understanding and recognition.
The Department of Commerce’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)
2011-2013
The department developed its first Reconciliation Action Plan 2008-2009 (RAP) under the direction of Reconciliation Australia and the Department of Indigenous Affairs and in consultation with stakeholders. We are now proud to deliver our second Action Plan.
The RAP contains strategies the department will implement to address the following outcomes:
- relationships;
- respect;
- opportunities; and
- tracking progress and reporting.
Reconciliation Australia recently approved and endorsed the department’s RAP which is now available to the community. The RAP is registered on Reconciliation Australia’s website along with many others from government, business, peak body, education, Aboriginal and community organisations. The RAP is available to the community.
