A new booklet outlining changes to the Code of Fair Practice for retirement village residents is available from today, through the Department of Consumer Protection.
The booklet - Changes to the Code of Fair Practice for Retirement Villages - is a free booklet offering information for both retirement village residents and owners.
Amendments to the 1998 Code were introduced on October 1st this year.
"The booklet clearly outlines the rights of all residents and owners", Consumer Protection Commissioner Patrick Walker said.
"Under the new Code, village residents now have more say about what happens in their home environment.
"Changes include residents now having the right to establish a residents' committee and being provided with quarterly income and expenditure statements by the village management.
"Both owners and residents should obtain a copy of the document to better understand their rights and obligations.
"The 2003 Code requires the administering bodies of retirement villages to update their contracts by 31 December 2003.
"The 'Changes to the Code of Fair Practice for Retirement Villages' booklet will help them to comply with new requirements", Commissioner Walker said.
