Sunday trading pair fined

Two directors and their company have been fined in the Perth Magistrates Court for Retail Trading Hours Act offences.

Desmond John Ellis of Williamson Avenue Belmont and Michael Anthony Della-Polina of Hastings Street Scarborough along with their company must pay $2,346.40 in fines and costs for illegally trading on two Sundays in January this year.

The pair opened their Beckenham shop at a time when it was required to be closed and had for sale among other goods, the controversial ‘Pocket Rocket’ miniature motorcycles that are classified under the Road Traffic Act as motor vehicles.

These traders were not eligible for extended trading because they were selling motor vehicles.

“We have a responsibility to the community in general and also to law biding traders who respect the rules and do the right thing to enforce trading hours and that is what we intend to continue doing”, Consumer Protection Commissioner Patrick Walker said.
