Early Christmas present for Western Australian job seekers

Issue Date:  -  Friday, 14 December 2007

After two consecutive increases, the unemployment rate in Western Australia decreased to 3.4 per cent today.

Figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show Western Australia to have the lowest unemployment rate of all the States and a significantly lower unemployment rate than the Australian figure of 4.5 per cent.

Western Australia’s participation rate remains the highest of the states, while total unemployment remains near historic lows.

Susan Barrera, Executive Director of the Labour Relations Division, DOCEP, said the figures from the ABS confirm that the WA’s labour market is still robust.

“We have maintained consistently low unemployment rates in WA over the last year, confirming the strength of the State’s economy,” Ms Barrera said.

“We are in a sustained boom time and the State continues to lead the country in reducing unemployment.”
