Perth pump prices among lowest in Australia:
ABS stats for September quarter back FuelWatch benefits
Issue Date: - Friday, 31 October 2008
Evidence is mounting that FuelWatch does help put downward pressure on the price of fuel, with Perth average prices for the September quarter up to six cents a litre cheaper than other major capital cities in Australia.
Deputy Petrol Commissioner Aaron Rayner said Perth’s average petrol prices were consistently lower than in Eastern States capital cities.
“It is no coincidence that Perth motorists have had the benefit of lower unleaded petrol prices in comparison to other cities in the last three months,” he said.
The latest ABS figures show that in the September quarter this year, Perth’s average ULP price was $1.49 a litre, which was 5cpl cheaper than Sydney and Adelaide, and 6cpl lower than Melbourne.
“FuelWatch is designed to add competitive pressure on retailers, and it works,” Mr Rayner said.
“Consumers know in advance what the cheapest prices are and which retailer they should buy from, without the uncertainty of price volatility throughout the day.
“FuelWatch gives motorists more power to force competitive pricing and delivers them cheaper fuel over time, as the stats prove.
“We strongly encourage motorists to shop around using FuelWatch and to support the cheapest retailers.”
Today’s average price is 136.8cpl. There are 225 outlets selling at or below this price today.
Three outlets are selling at today’s cheapest price of 132.9cpl.
