Perth fuel prices to rise over the next few days
Issue Date: - Tuesday, 27 October 2009
If you want to save money when filling up your car, FuelWatch recommends you get to a petrol station today or tomorrow to beat Perth’s weekly petrol price cycle.
FuelWatch reports that most BP outlets are increasing their petrol prices by up to 17.4 cents per litre (cpl) tomorrow to almost 130 cpl. A few Caltex outlets are increasing their petrol prices by 19 cpl to almost 129 cpl. In Mandurah, some BP sites are increasing their petrol prices by more than 17 cpl. Other brands are likely to follow over the next few days.
Petrol stations in Perth follow a trend where prices rise sharply during a two to three day period and then slowly fall for the remainder of the week, but not all brands move their prices at the same time so there is a wide price variation between petrol stations.
“Tomorrow, the difference between the cheapest and most expensive sites is 21 cents per litre which equates to over $11 filling up the standard 55 litre tank,” said Deputy Prices Commissioner Aaron Rayner.
“Over the past three months, Peak and Gull have, on average, been the cheapest brands in Perth,” he said.
Tomorrow, 196 (67%) petrol stations are selling below the metropolitan average of 114.0 cpl, with 60 selling below 109 cpl. The advice from FuelWatch is to be aware that petrol is generally cheaper on Monday and Tuesday and more expensive on Thursday and Friday and to time your purchases accordingly.
