Issue Date: - Thursday, 8 March 2012
Home owners and builders thinking about undertaking alterations and additions to existing residential buildings will need to comply with 6 star energy efficiency requirements from 30 April 2013.
The Building Code of Australia will require all new residential buildings to comply with 6 star energy efficiency requirements from 1st May 2012.
“Considerable work has been undertaken by the 6 Star Committee which comprises of industry and government participants, to achieve a fair implementation period for all concerned,” Building Commissioner Peter Gow said.
“By giving an additional 12 months transition period for alterations and additions within the building regulations, we allow important
phase-in work for service providers who need to change their processes and to accommodate the changes that achieving 6 star ratings involves.
“Progress is well advanced on providing a WA Alterations and Additions Protocol for the building industry and the extra 12 months will allow for fine tuning and consultation prior to final implementation,” he said.
