Gas Licensing Committee
The Gas Licensing Committee was formed by the Director of Energy Safety to consider matters with regard to licenses issued under the Gas Standards (Gasfitting and Consumer Gas Installations) Regulations 1999. The committee's primary function is to advise the Director on the competence of applicants for, and holder of, permits and authorisations issued under the regulations.
The Committee reviews applications for gasfitting authorisations and more complex permits. It also provides advice to the Director with regards to disciplinary matters and assessment of licence holders. The Gas Licensing Committee assess gas fitters who breach the regulations and makes a recommendation to the Director as to whether the person should go to a formal inquiry to provide the Director with just cause to let him or her retain their licence. The committee also makes recommendations on retraining and other restrictions and warnings. This is separate to any matters for prosecution.
The committee consists of three members (officers of EnergySafety) appointed by the Director of Energy Safety:
- Manager Licensing & Administrative Services - Chairman
Mr Joe Bonfiglio - Principal Engineer Gas Utilisation
Mr David Robertson - Chief Gas Inspector
Mr Kevin Hooper
