Centres of Excellence Program
Providing investment to support and facilitate research excellence in existing and proposed scientific endeavour, with a significant base in Western Australia.
The Centres of Excellence Program aims to encourage, catalyse or leverage opportunities to expand and enhance Western Australia’s (WA) science and innovation capability and performance.
Investment and support from the State Government will allow WA scientists and innovators greater scope to develop centres involving research excellence within our universities in collaboration with the vocational education and training sector, government research agencies, the private sector and the community. The State investment in a centre is expected to generate significant benefits to the economy.
Once established, centres must become powerful attractors of further investment from both the private and public sectors and function as nationally and/or internationally competitive centres of research excellence.
The State Government’s support for the program follows from the commitment made through the InnovateWA Policy. The policy states new centres of research excellence should be developed in WA to strengthen and improve the educational and research capacity of the State.
