What is a Centre of Excellence?
Centres of Excellence are research centres, conducting or supporting science and innovation activities which have tangible benefits for Western Australia (WA). The centres have also received investment and support from the State Government under the Centres of Excellence Program.
There are more than 40 Centres of Excellence, including several Cooperative Research Centres, currently conducting industry focused research and raising the profile of WA at an international level.

The department is currently providing funding assistance to support more than 40 Centres of Excellence in science and innovation.
One of the most successful programs of its type in Australia, the research centres supported by the program have been successful in attracting more than $300 million in research and infrastructure grants.
