Building Services (Registration) Amendment Regulations (No. 2) 2014 – Registration of building surveying practitioner technicians

This announcement is for:
Building surveyor

The Building Services (Registration) Regulations 2011 (the Regulations) provide for the registration of building service providers, including building surveyors.

The Regulations currently provide for three levels of registration for building surveying practitioners: level 1, level 2 and technicians. Regulation 28D(3) of the Regulations prescribes the qualifications and experience for registration as a building surveying practitioner technician.

On 19 December 2014, amendments to Regulation 28D(3) were gazetted that removed reference to the sunset date of 2 April 2015. This means that new applications for registration as a building surveying practitioner technician can be accepted beyond this date.

With the removal of the sunset date of 2 April 2015, Schedule 1 Division 4A of the Regulations has been amended to include a three year option for registration with a fee of $450. This will bring the registration periods for technicians in line with those of other building service providers who have both 18 month and three year options for registration.

A copy of this subsidiary legislation is available on the Parliamentary Counsels Office website.
