Changes to notification requirements for drainage plumbing work

This announcement is for:
Plumber

On 1 August 2015 the Plumbers Licensing Board will amend the way in which plumbers must give notice that drainage plumbing work is ready to be inspected.

The new time nominated by the Board as the time before which the notification under regulation 70(1) is to be given is 4.30pm on the Wednesday of the week following the completion of drainage plumbing work. This means plumbers can cover drainage plumbing work upon completion and submit a single notification for all drainage plumbing work completed the previous week.

The Board expects this will be welcome news for licensed plumbing contractors as it will reduce the administrative burden for drainage plumbing work.

The change has been possible following the trial use of drainage cameras by plumbing inspectors who found they were able to inspect drains effectively despite being covered.

Plumbing contractors can notify the Board via any of the following means:

(a) SMS: 0417 209 818
(b) Fax: 1300 449 185
(c) Email: plumbingaudits@dmirs.wa.gov.au
(d) Telephone: 6251 1377

The notification given may be in relation to drainage plumbing work referred to on multiple notices of intention and must include the notice of intention numbers, property addresses, the dates the work was carried out, a description of the work and the licence number of the responsible plumbing contractor.

The Board reminds Licensed Plumbing Contractors that it is still their responsibility to test drainage plumbing work in accordance with Section 13 of AS/NZS 3500.2:2003 prior to the installation being covered.
