The State Government has approved an extra four hours of trading for general retail shops in metropolitan Perth on both Western Australia Day and the Queen’s Birthday public holidays.

The extension to permitted opening times means general retail shops will be able to trade any time between 8am and 6pm on Monday, 3 June 2019 (Western Australia Day) and Monday, 30 September 2019 (Queen’s Birthday public holiday).

Regulated trading hours for these public holiday Mondays are 11am to 5pm. The legislation provides the Minister for Commerce the power to vary public holiday general retail trading hours in the Perth metropolitan area, with the exception of Christmas Day, Good Friday and ANZAC Day.

There is more information on Western Australia’s retail trading hours’ laws on the Consumer Protection website www.consumerprotection.wa.gov.au.
