Nominations have been called for the prestigious Work Safety Awards Western Australia 2015.
WorkSafe WA Commissioner Lex McCulloch said today the Awards aimed to publicly acknowledge the excellent workplace innovations and occupational safety and health systems being developed in WA.
“The Work Safety Awards Western Australia recognise outstanding occupational safety and health management, solutions and innovation in both public and private sector workplaces in WA that reduce the risk of work-related injury and disease,” Mr McCulloch said.
"This year, we would like to appeal especially to WA small businesses to nominate for the Awards.
“Small businesses account for around 96 per cent of all businesses in WA, and many are coming up with innovative solutions to reduce risks in their workplaces.
“The Work Safety Awards Western Australia present a terrific opportunity for these small businesses to get the recognition they deserve for their workplace safety and health management.”
The four Award categories for 2015 are:
- Best workplace safety and health management system;
- Best solution to an identified workplace safety and health issue;
- Best workplace safety and health practices in small business; and
- Best individual contribution to workplace safety and health (with or without formal OSH responsibilities).
Nominations will close on July 3, and category winners will be announced as part of Safe Work October.
Mr McCulloch encouraged companies and individuals to consider nominating for this year’s Awards to take advantage of the opportunity to have their achievements publicly recognised.
“Achievements in workplace safety and health – whether everyday individual achievements or large-scale initiatives – can be worthy of a Work Safety Award WA in 2015,” he said.
“The application process for the Awards has been simplified this year, so applicants will not be required to complete a large amount of paperwork in order to nominate.
“I often come across excellent but unrecognised occupational safety and health practices, so if your organisation has made a change that has improved safety in your workplace, take the time to tell us about it.
“It is important that organisations are given the chance to celebrate their success together with their employees because everyone benefits from good workplace safety and health practice.”
Entering the Awards is easy with a simple online application process.
