Regulations require LP Gas cylinders be inspected and tested every ten (10) years.

Filling damaged or out-of-test date cylinders is illegal and can be dangerous.

LP Gas cylinders out-of-test date must not be filled until tested and re-stamped by an approved gas cylinder test station.

The approved gas cylinder test station scheme is operated by Standards Australia (AS 2337 Gas cylinder test stations).

LP Gas cylinder information

To determine the last test date of an LP Gas cylinder, simply refer to the information stamped on the cylinder foot ring or the valve protection collar.  Automotive LP Gas cylinders may have a data plate or tag attached to the cylinder.

Important information recorded on the LP Gas cylinder foot ring, valve collar or data plate include:

• Manufacturing standard
• Statutory approval number
• Design water capacity (may be shown in kilograms and/or litres)
• Test pressure
• Last test date (if more than one date, the most recent date applies)
• Mass weight
• Country of origin
• Unique test station mark(s)
