Things to consider before signing a membership agreement

Your fitness centre 'membership agreement' is a legally binding contract and must be in writing.

You must be given an opportunity to read the agreement and the rules of the fitness centre before you sign up. The centre must also have a copy of the Code of Practice for you to read if you want to.

The agreement must include certain information, including:

  • all services to be provided;
  • all fees charged under the agreement; and
  • specifying the start and finish of a 48-hour cooling-off period, during which you can end the agreement without having to give a reason.
