  •  Australian Taxation Office
    For information on tax liabilities and obtaining tax exemptions as a not-for-profit or charitable entity. Publications include "packs" with tax information for non-profit organisations (Tax basics for non-profit organisations), fundraising and deductible gift recipients (GiftPack for deductible gift recipients & donors).

  • Charitable Collections
    If your association is considering collecting from, or selling goods to, the public for charitable purposes you will need to be licensed.

  • Department of Sport and Recreation
    This department also has many excellent publications available from the department or their webpage to assist sporting associations, as well as telephone assistance. Although the publications have been developed specifically for sporting groups, other associations may want to download them from the website as many include information useful for any association.
  • Office of the Federal Privacy Commissioner
    This Office administers the Commonwealth's privacy legislation. Information Sheets, guides and legislation can be downloaded from the website and there is also a telephone information line. Information Sheet 12 - 2001 Coverage of and Exemptions from the Private Sector Provisions is generally of interest to associations.
  • Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations
    For information on Aboriginal associations and corporations incorporated under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act (2006). Associations with Aboriginal members may want information from this Office to work out whether the Commonwealth or WA legislation better suits their needs.
  • State Law Publisher
    The Act and Regulations also can be downloaded from the State Law Publisher's website. Go to "Online Publications" and then "Statutes - Acts and Regulations" or telephone 9426 0000.
  • Department for Communities
    The Community Participation unit of the Department for Communities provides information and resources for volunteers.
  • Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor
    The Department responsible for regulating occasional and club liquor licenses. Also issues permits for fundraising activities including Lotteries (Raffles) and games such as Bingo.
  • National Standard Chart of Accounts (SCoA)
    The National SCoA is an agreed list of account categories to be used by all Australian government agencies when dealing with not for profit (NFP) organisations. The SCoA lists the names and account categories most likely to be used by NFP groups to record accounting information. The implementation of the National SCoA in Western Australia is supported by the Department of Treasury.
