Consultation on new proposals for supervision of electrical workers and apprentices

In March and April this year,  EnergySafety sought comments from industry on a range of proposed changes to:

  • the Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991;
  • the EnergySafety publication Safe Working Guidelines for Electrical Workers; and
  • the EnergySafety publication Safe Working Guidelines for Electrical Apprentices.

A number of submissions were received regarding the effective supervision of electrical apprentices. As a result, EnergySafety has developed further related revisions and is conducting a second round of consultation on this matter. A discussion paper on the new supervision proposals  is available below.

Consultation on proposed amendment to Part IV of the Electricity Regulations 1947

Proposed amendments to Part IV of the Electricity Regulations 1947 are now available for comment.

Premises used for temporary or intermittent accommodation – Installation of residual current devices

The proposed amendment can be viewed here

Premises used for temporary or intermittent accommodation - Installation of residual current devices

The proposed amendment results from a legal opinion concerning the “residential” status of premises used for temporary or intermittent accommodation and the possible effect of this opinion on the requirement in the regulations about the installation of residual current devices.

The proposed amendment will clarify that:

  1. accommodation used for temporary or intermittent accommodation for one, or more than one, individual is residential accommodation; and
  2. under prescribed circumstances, it is permissible to install a single residual current device in specified transportable structures.

Your comments on the proposed amendments to the legislation would be appreciated.

The closing date for comments is 5pm on Friday 21 July 2017.
