Graduate Program
Our graduate program is exciting and unique! It involves four lead Western Australian government departments working together to offer a varied and supportive program to help develop the professional skills and knowledge of graduates.
It aims to advance graduates careers in an exciting, supportive and diverse environment while also adding value to departmental operations and developing future management and leadership capability.
State Government departments involved in the graduate program are:
Department of Commerce
The Department of Commerce maintains a vital role in facilitating a business environment that is productive, innovative, fair and safe. It works to create a contemporary, diversified economy that provides for the growth, safety and protection of the Western Australian community by promoting innovation and science; enhancing capacity; and ensuring a world class regulatory environment. It also administers over 80 different acts and legislation on behalf of the State Government and employes on average 1000 people across eight divisions to deliver its services to the community of Western Australia. The department's culture focuses on making a positive difference by continually improving our services and stakeholder relationships.
Department of Mines and Petroleum
The State's lead agency in attracting private investment in resources exploration and development through the provision of geoscientific information on minerals and energy resources, and management of an equitable and secure titles systems for the mining, petroleum and geothermal industries. It also carries prime responsibility for regulating these extractive industries as well as dangerous goods in Western Australia, including the collection of royalties and ensuring the safety, health and environmental standards are consistent with relevant state and commonwealth legislation, regulations and policies.
Department of State Development
The Department of State Development provides leadership across government to drive responsible development for Western Australia's future. Working closely with industry, communities and government agencies the department delivers significant state initiatives and supports major resource, industrial and infrastructure projects. It also aims to drive economic growth by facilitating exports, attracting investments, building relationships and promoting the State internationally.
Department of Regional Development and Lands
The Department of Regional Development and Lands manages Western Australia's state lands and pastoral estate, and facilitates the development of regional communities. We are uniquely placed to do so, with funding from Royalties for Regions supporting economic and community development projects throughout regional Western Australia, and responsible for 93 per cent of the State's lands.
