Family violence prevention: changes to WA tenancy laws (presentation)

This publication is for:
Property industry

The slides contained in this document cover the presentation about tenancy law changes to support victims of family and domestic violence (FDV) in Western Australia (WA).

The state government is removing tenancy law barriers for WA renters affected by FDV.  In a nutshell, tenants affected by FDV will be able to:

  • Leave: by terminating their own interest in a tenancy agreement by giving a notice to the lessor/landlord (there are evidence requirements such as a Family Violence Restraining Order or prescribed Consumer Protection form signed by a designated professional); or
  • Stay: by applying to the court to have the perpetrator’s interest in the tenancy agreement terminated.
