Board limits Builtoncorp’s registration

The Building Services Board has imposed conditions on the contractor registration of Burswood-based builder Builtoncorp Pty Ltd (reg. BC12114).

The condition imposed on Builtoncorp’s registration on 27 January 2017 prohibits the company from entering into contracts for the carrying out of building work for which a contractor registration is required.

Building Commissioner Peter Gow said Builtoncorp’s recent appointment of an administrator had cast further doubt over its ability to meet its registration obligations and justified the action taken by the Board.

“Registered building contractors are required under the Building Services (Registration) Act 2011 to meet financial requirements, specifically to maintain the capacity to pay debts as and when they fall due,” he said.

“The Board’s action will limit the risk to the public in the event Builtoncorp is released from administration.”

On 23 January 2017, Builtoncorp voluntarily appointed Jeremy Nipps and Dino Travaglini of Cor Cordis as administrators of the company.

The Building Commissioner had issued a public warning in regards to the building contractor’s financial status prior to it going into administration. The warning can be read at

A registered building contractor is required to notify the Board no later than seven days after becoming aware that it is unable to meet its financial obligations under the Building Services (Registration) Act.

Mr Gow said at the time this media statement was issued, the Building Commission had not received formal notification of Builtoncorp’s financial situation from the builder.

“Part of the administrator’s role will be determining the company’s financial status," he said.

“Further action can be taken by the Board if Builtoncorp is found to have engaged in conduct in breach of its registration obligations.

“In the meantime, the public is warned not to enter into any new building contracts with Builtoncorp unless the conditions on its registrations are lifted.”
