Changes to the Long Service Leave Act have commenced

The WA Long Service Leave Act applies to many state and national system employers and employees in Western Australia. 

On 20 June 2022, a number of important changes to the Long Service Leave Act commenced.

Key changes include:

  • Modernisation of the types of paid and unpaid absences that count towards long service leave accrual;
  • Provision for greater flexibility in how long service leave is taken;
  • New record keeping requirements and stronger enforcement provisions, including penalties for contraventions
  • New ‘transfer of business’ provisions that apply when business ownership changes.
