Consumer Protection is concerned customers who have booked through a travel agency which closed down this week may have had their travel arrangements cancelled due to non-payment.
A Director of Azberg Pty Ltd, trading as Global Plus Holidays in Northbridge, has confirmed the business is facing financial difficulty and is seeking advice from insolvency accountants.
Five consumers of Global Plus Holidays have reported paying a total of more than $15,000 on travel but have discovered the flights haven’t been paid for by the agency. One consumer found out their flight had been cancelled four days before they were due to travel.
Acting Commissioner for Consumer Protection David Hillyard has advised travellers who booked through the agency to carry out their own checks on their travel arrangements.
“We urgently advise customers to contact the airline and accommodation providers direct to ensure they have confirmed bookings that are fully paid before travelling,” Mr Hillyard said.
“We are in contact with the business operators to endeavour to get a complete list of customers whose bookings may be in jeopardy.
“Agency customers who booked travel insurance through the agency are advised to also check with the travel insurance company direct to confirm that their policy is valid.”
Consumers affected by the closure are advised to contact Consumer Protection by email consumer@commerce.wa.gov.au or by phone 1300 30 40 54 and register their details so they can be kept informed of future developments.
