There’s a new Consumer Protection Senior Regional Officer for the Great Southern.

Steph Marsh spent her first week in the job training at Consumer Protection’s Perth HQ but is now permanently based at the office on Aberdeen Street in Albany.

Steph has lived and worked in Albany for the past eight years at the Department of Communities, supporting children and families. She is looking forward to helping consumers and tenants in her new role.

“I’ve been learning all about the rights and responsibilities of consumers, traders, tenants and landlords – now I’m keen to empower others by sharing that knowledge,” she said.

“Having lived in the Great Southern for the best part of a decade I’m really conscious of the importance of delivering a service to all of the community members and towns across the region and I’m committed to getting out in person to some of the smaller communities.

“I’m at the end of the phone on 9842 8366 or I can be contacted via email at consumer@dmirs.wa.gov.au. I can offer free information and advice, conciliation between consumers and traders or for more serious matters I can take a formal complaint for our compliance team to investigate.”

Commissioner for Consumer Protection David Hillyard said the appointment ensures the Great Southern community continues to receive the excellent, personalised service they have had for the last 17 years from outgoing Senior Regional Officer Iris Thomas.

“Iris has established a solid rapport with the community, from the general public to business owners and key stakeholders, including officers from other government departments. It would be remiss of us not to recognise that outstanding work and thank her for her service over the last 17 years.

“We’re very thankful Iris has been able to show Steph the ropes. And because Iris is now based in the Perth office as Coordinator of our Seniors Housing Advisory Centre she will continue to be available to assist, as Steph finds her feet.

“Steph’s background and experience means she’s extremely well-suited to Consumer Protection work and we look forward to witnessing her achievements as Senior Regional Officer for Albany.”

The Albany office is one of six Consumer Protection regional offices. The locations and contact details can be found on the Consumer Protection website.
