Information update

Two different industrial relations systems operate in Western Australia the state system and the national fair work system.

The state system covers sole traders, unincorporated partnerships and trusts and some incorporated or not for profit organisations.

For employers and employees covered by the state system, information is being regularly updated on the Employment impacted by the COVID-19 coronavirus page. The webpage has information on employment obligations and entitlements in a situation where:

  • employees are unable to work due to self isolation or quarantine requirements for themselves or family members due to COVID-19 coronavirus; or
  • the business has been impacted by travel or import/export restrictions associated with COVID-19 coronavirus.

The national system covers Pty Ltd businesses (e.g. Smith Pty Ltd trading as Jane’s Café) and their employees.

For employers and employees in the national system the Fair Work Ombudsman website has information on this issue.

For more information on which types of businesses are covered by the state and national systems visit the Guide to who is in the WA state system page.
