New appointment to spearhead consumer issues in the Mid-West
- Candice Evans to lead the team in Consumer Protection’s Geraldton office
- Her experience in helping tenants will be useful in new role
- Consumer Protection’s presence in the region increases ability to deal with local issues
Consumer Protection has appointed a new senior regional officer to service the region which covers Geraldton and an area as far as Carnarvon, the northern Wheatbelt around Moora and remote communities such as Wiluna to the east.
Candice Evans has previously worked at the Housing Authority (now the Department of Communities) where, amongst other roles, she was the Area Manager in Halls Creek coordinating public housing services for mostly indigenous clients. Prior to that, she was an intelligence analyst for the Department of Justice, identifying safety and security risks for Court users.
Candice believes her experience in housing will equip her well to deal with tenancy issues she will face in her new role.
“Problem-solving and troubleshooting are relevant attributes that I bring to the role, as well as the years that I have spent working in regional and remote communities in WA,” Candice says.
“I am looking forward to expanding my responsibilities to include general issues affecting all consumers in the Mid-West and providing vital advice and assistance to resolve complaints whether it’s a retail dispute, tenancy matter or people losing money to scams.
“Much of my efforts in my career so far have involved empowering the community, especially those regarded as disadvantaged, and I intend to continue this passion in my new role at Consumer Protection.”
Commissioner for Consumer Protection Lanie Chopping said the appointment of Candice to lead the team in Geraldton is a demonstration of the Consumer Protection’s commitment to regional WA.
“Having a local presence in regional areas means that we have our ear to ground and can react quickly to any local issues that may arise and provide a more personal service to regional consumers,” Ms Chopping said.
“Candice’s background working in many different country areas and dealing with vulnerable tenants and her experience of problem-solving means she’s extremely well-suited to Consumer Protection work and we look forward to witnessing her future achievements as Senior Regional Officer for the Mid-West.”
Candice joins the Consumer Protection team in Geraldton which includes conciliation officers Kim Doble and Adam Searle.
The Geraldton office is one of six Consumer Protection regional offices in WA. People are welcome to attend the office at 50-52 Durlacher Street, or email email@example.com or call (08) 9920 9800.
