The State Government has approved an additional four hours of trading for general retail shops in the Perth metropolitan area on Labour Day and Easter Monday.
Shops will be able to trade from 8am until 6pm on Monday, 5 March 2018 (Labour Day) and Monday, 2 April 2018 (Easter Monday). Trading during this extended period is discretionary for metropolitan area retailers.
The Retail Trading Hours (Public Holidays Order) 2012 enables general retail shops in the Perth metropolitan area to trade from 11am to 5pm on public holidays, other than on Christmas Day, Good Friday and ANZAC Day, when general retail shops must close.
The Retail Trading Hours Act 1987 (Section 12E) enables the Minister to vary public holiday trading hours in the Perth metropolitan area, other than on Christmas Day, Good Friday and ANZAC Day.
Acting Commissioner for Consumer Protection Penny Lipscombe said Commerce and Industrial Relations Minister Bill Johnston approved the application for additional trading hours from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA (Inc.) in order to benefit traders, shoppers and the economy.
“These hours provide consistency with previous extensions of this type,” she said.
“Industry stakeholders have been advised and details are available on our website.”
