Warning about builder’s financial status – Contempo Group Pty Ltd, trading as Contempo Living Homes

Building Commissioner Peter Gow has issued a public warning about the status of registered building contractor Contempo Group Pty Ltd (reg. BC14145).

The Building Commission has been advised by Contempo Group’s director that the building contractor’s nominated building supervisor, Mr John Hewitt (reg. 14108) is no longer performing the role of nominated supervisor.

The Building Commission has also received information giving rise to concerns about the builder’s financial capacity to pay its debts as and when they fall due.

“All registered building contractors are required to notify the Building Commission if they cease to have a nominated supervisor, or are no longer able to meet their financial obligations under the Building Services (Registration) Act 2011,” Mr Gow said.

“While the Building Commission is continuing to assess the information it has received about the Contempo Group, people with existing contracts with the company should be cautious and should only make payments or give credit when the company confirms its financial situation.

“The company must not carry out any building work while it does not have a nominated supervisor.

“In the meantime, the Building Commission will continue its investigation and assess whether further action against the building contractor is warranted.”
