About the Seniors Housing Advisory Centre

This page is for:
Senior

The Seniors Housing Advisory Centre (SHAC) is a free, independent information and advice service covering the full range of housing options for seniors in WA. The SHAC does not directly offer housing, or provide financial and legal advice, but can be an invaluable source of information for seniors and their families.

The information on these pages covers the many housing options available; from modifying or redeveloping existing homes to renting or moving into a strata titled community, a residential park or retirement village.

Contact the SHAC

You can telephone the SHAC (located in Perth) for the cost of a local call on 1300 367 057 or email us at seniors.housing@dmirs.wa.gov.au

If you would prefer, you can make an appointment to visit and speak with SHAC staff located on Level 2, 140 William Street Perth (use the public lifts in Railway Lane off the Murray St mall).

Housing information

There are many housing options for the over 55 age group considering their present and future housing needs.

Your Home: a guide to housing options for people over 55 provides information on choices available.   You can also start by looking at the decision making checklist page.

To help seniors manage at home, the Department of Communities has created the Age Friendly Home Maintenance Kit which contains information on common home maintenance issues that are often overlooked or can be prevented.

The following links provide more information on the choices available.
