In the same way that builders are required to a have a building contractor registration to contract directly with others, painters must also meet this obligation.
Individuals, partnerships and companies that contract with others to provide painting services valued over $1,000 must be registered as a painting contractor and will have demonstrated a financial and organisational capacity. Partnerships and companies are required to have at least one nominated supervisor who is a registered painting practitioner.
The Building Commission reminds builders who contract with painters that they must ensure they are dealing with a registered painting contractor. A registered builder cannot contract directly with a painting practitioner.
You can check that a painter holds the correct registration by visiting the Building and Energy website.
