Inc: A Guide for Incorporated Associations in Western Australia

In Western Australia there are nearly 20,000 not-for-profit groups registered as incorporated associations. An incorporated association or club is able to pursue its objects and purposes by applying for grants, opening bank accounts and holding property in its own name, while limiting the exposure of its members to personal legal liability.

To be successful an association must understand and comply with its various legal responsibilities. INC: A guide for incorporated associations in Western Australia is a good governance guide to assist associations and clubs in managing their organisation effectively. The guide:

  • highlights the key legal requirements of an incorporated association under the Associations Incorporation Act 2015; and
  • provides information about managing an association including meeting procedures, responsibilities of the management committee, record keeping and dispute resolution.

There are many government departments and non-government organisations that provide assistance to incorporated associations. The guide draws together these resources and includes direct links to relevant information about matters such as taxation, employing staff, risk management and safety.
