Our content types

To address our visitor needs, we can contribute content using content types. The most frequently used content types include:

Announcement

Usage:

  • An announcement is for creating time specific information, where relevance of the information decreases as time progresses.

Distinct features:

  • Although division specific, an announcement is not tied to the site IA.
  • Most recently published 3-5 will be featured in "Latest Announcements“.
  • Has an official announcement date which is not affected by edits or publishing schedule.
  • Has expiry date - the agreed expiry timeframe is 6 years, after which the announcement will be unpublished.

Users can filter announcements based on:

  • Keywords
  • Announcement type
  • Relevance to audience
  • Division
  • Announcement date range

Fields you will have to fill when creating an announcement:

  • Title
  • Body
  • Division
  • Audience
  • Announcement Type
  • Announcement Date (the official release date which is displayed on the announcement. Note: this may not be the same as the publish date.)

  • Scheduling options (publish and expiry dates)

See guide on creating an announcement.

Publication

Usage:

  • A publication is a container reference materials which may have been in the past distributed in the printed format.
  • Use if you need to add files (PDF, Office documents or spreadsheets, videos, images, podcasts, etc media format files.)
  • Useful for providing introductory or additional information to attached files, so users can understand what they are for prior to downloading them.

Distinct features:

  • Although division specific, a publication is not tied to the site IA.
  • Most recently published 3-5 will be featured in "Latest Publications“.
  • Can be read and understood out of context, and can be referenced as a standalone, discrete chunk of information.

Users can filter announcements based on:

  • Keywords
  • Publication type
  • Relevance to audience
  • Division
  • Media type (e.g. listen, watch, or read)
  • Publication date range

Fields you will have to fill when creating an announcement:

  • Title

  • Division
  • Audience
  • Publication Type

Content

Usage:

  • For information that remains relevant and rarely changes, e.g.:
    • Instructional / educational information
    • Policies, procedures, legislation
    • About the organisation

Distinct features:

  • Content is tied to the agreed Information Architecture of the website.
  • Users can explore the information by using the global site navigation.

Fields:

  • Page title (which will be the first heading of the page).
  • Summary - optional - for providing a synopsis/teaser to be displayed in search result listings.  If left blank, the first 600 characters of the first paragraph provided in the Body will be used.
  • Body - fill in the actual content here.
  • Divisional section - define where this content will be located in the site structure. Most content will be at the 4th level, so they will come under parts of the IA with 3 hyphens (e.g. ---SectionName)
  • Audience - to identify who this page is most applicable to

See guide on creating and adding content to the Division Information Architecture.
