Drainage plumbing work notifications (r. 70 notice)

This page is for:

Inspections of drainage plumbing work

Drainage plumbing inspections are carried out by plumbing inspectors while the work is under construction. Most drainage plumbing inspections will arise from notifications (r.70 notice) made by, or on behalf of, the licensed plumbing contractor responsible for the work. A drainage plumbing inspection can also arise at random from a notice of intention or certificate of compliance.

In accordance with regulation 70(1) of the Plumbers Licensing and Plumbing Standards Regulations 2000, licensed plumbing contractors (LPCs) are required to notify the Plumbers Licensing Board (PLB) of when the drainage plumbing is ready to be inspected. The LPC or any representative may submit the r.70 notice.

When should an r.70 notice be given?

All drainage plumbing work that is considered to be major work – such as the installation, alteration or extension of drainage plumbing, and sewer cut and seals – requires notification to be submitted. The r.70 notice must be given prior to 4.30pm on the Wednesday of the week following completion of relevant drainage plumbing work.
