Vittorio Tassone is a qualified, experienced civil engineer who has been responsible for project management, contract administration, tendering, project feasibility and constructability for projects associated with the civil, infrastructure, resource, processing and infrastructure work, and process industries. For almost 20 years prior to entering the law, Christopher worked in construction of commercial projects for some of Australia’s larger contractor, and later design and construction project management of hotels and resorts both within Australia and South East Asia.  During that time, he developed an expertise in addressing distressed projects, often called upon to reorganise projects and bring them back on track. In such roles he was substantially involved in dispute management and resolution at the coal-face, such involving delays, prolongation, defective work, variations, and cost overruns.

In the 1990’s he was predominantly active in Thailand, Singapore, the Maldives, and Burma, whilst consulting on projects in the Middle East, Guam, and the Philippines. In 1998 he returned to Australia, obtained his law degree, and was admitted as a Solicitor in early 2002. In November 2011 he was called to the Bar in Queensland where he now practices. Notwithstanding that he still holds his open builder’s licence in Queensland.

With his principle Chambers in Cairns, and visited chambers in Brisbane, he is called upon in matters across the State. Naturally, his main practice is building and construction law in both front and back end advice together with a substantial litigation in that field. However, he also advises on and appears in property and partnership disputes, insolvency, and general commercial matters.

Christopher has a particular passion for alternative dispute resolution, particularly arbitration and conciliation. He is an accredited mediator and arbitrator, and a registered adjudicator under security of payment legislation in Queensland, New South Wales, the ACT, South Australia, the Northern Territory, and Western Australia. He has conducted numerous adjudications up to in excess of $66 Million, and is often called upon as an Expert Determiner and/or Arbitrator in construction disputes. Max is a Chartered Professional Engineer with more than 45 years experience in building and engineering projects, including 25 years in contract development, contract administration and dispute resolution.

From 2001 until 2005 Max was General Manager, Procurement Systems in the NSW Department of Commerce (formerly Department of Public Works and Services, now Department of Finance, Services and Innovation). The Department managed a very extensive building and engineering capital works program for the State. Max was responsible for tendering and contracting systems for construction projects. He provided advice to the Minister and Department officers on all aspects of building and engineering construction contracts, including contracting strategies, commercial terms, selection of service providers and contract administration. From 1995 to 2001 Max was Manager Contracts, responsible for the management and resolution of construction contract disputes by mediation, expert determination, arbitration and litigation. Since leaving the public service, Max has specialised in statutory adjudication of contract disputes.

Max is a senior adjudicator, accredited under the Building and Construction Industry Security Payment Act 1999 (NSW), equivalent Acts in Victoria, Tasmania, ACT and South Australia, and the Construction Contracts Act 2004 (WA).
