The Gas Standards Act 1972 and Gas Standards (Gasfitting and Consumer Gas Installations) Regulations 1999 requires a person to hold a gasfitting permit to undertake or supervise gasfitting work in Western Australia.
Gas fitters are sent three reminders via SMS and email for the renewal of their gasfitting permit. The last reminder is emailed one month prior to the expiry date, noting that it is the final reminder and advising gas fitters they will be unlicensed after the expiry date. Gas fitters undertaking or supervising gasfitting work after the expiry date may be in breach of the Gas Standards Act 1972 and disciplinary action may be taken.
Gas fitters should use the Building and Energy online licensing facility.
How to pay your gasfitting permit fees
Generally, the renewal process is completed within a few days. If your licence expires prior to your licence application being assessed by Licensing Services you will be unlicensed to undertake or supervise gasfitting work. For example, renewing a permit online over the weekend.
Following recent changes to the Gas Standards (Gasfitting and Consumer Gas Installations) Regulations 1999, a gasfitting permit can be renewed up to 90 days before and no later than 30 days after the date of expiry of the permit. Beyond this 30 day period, you will no longer be able to apply to restore an expired gasfitting permit and will need to submit a new application.
Application for a gasfitting permit expired 31 days and up to two years
Regulation 8 of the Gas Standards (Gasfitting and Consumer Gas Installations) Regulations 1999 requires a gasfitter to notify the Director of Energy Safety within 14 days of a change of their address. This can be done using the online licensing facility.
