On Wednesday 12 July the Government announced the development of a modernised Work Health and Safety Bill for Western Australia based on  the national Work Health and Safety Act. This Bill will replace three acts, the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984, Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994; and Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Safety Levies Act 2011.

The development of the Bill involved extensive consultation with stakeholders and the community prior to being introduction into State Parliament.

The Work Health and Safety Bill 2019 passed through the Legislative Assembly of the Western Australian Parliament on 20 February 2020. 

The Safety Levies Amendment Bill 2019 accompanied the Work Health and Safety Bill 2019 in passing through the Legislative Assembly.  Both bills have had their Second Reading Speeches in the Legislative Council where they will be considered in detail.
