You may recall recent changes to the Settlement Agents Act 1981 (the SA Act) which came into effect on 1 January 2020. This means you are now required to meet your annual compulsory professional development (CPD) requirements every calendar year or face potential enforcement action.

In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic it may not be possible for your registered training provider, the Australian Institute of Conveyancers WA (AICWA), to deliver the core CPD subjects by usual means. Consumer Protection has moved to find alternative delivery options for the core component of the training in order to assist settlement agents to meet their CPD requirements.

Currently only a remote participant who is unable to attend a core CPD seminar in person is eligible to receive the distance learning package. In light of the current situation the Commissioner for Consumer Protection has permitted AICWA to provide the core component of the CPD training to all participants online or via webinar. This should assist you to meet your CPD requirements. Please contact AICWA direct to confirm availability of particular CPD activities.

Now is an excellent time to review your CPD status. If you have not met the 2019 requirements before year end you will need to ensure you meet the remainder of your 2019 CPD obligations and your full 2020 obligation to prevent future compliance action.

For any further enquiries about your CPD please contact cpd@dmirs.wa.gov.au. Please do not reply to this email.
