On 18 July 2022, the Minister for Commerce approved the preparation of new regulations to register building engineers. The Amendment Regulations will introduce a framework to register engineers carrying out the following four classes of building engineering work:

• Civil
• Structural
• Mechanical
• Fire Safety

A consultation draft of the Amendment Regulations has been prepared for a period of public comment and consideration.

The explanatory document has been prepared to assist the reader understand the policy intent of the Amendment Regulations and to provide feedback on the technical operation.

The draft Regulations are open for public consultation until Monday 24 October 2022.
