Thinking of purchasing a new car? Tips for consumers

Follow these tips to protect yourself:

1. Research

Before you buy a new or used car, do some research to determine which car is right for you and what you can afford.

2. Check safety rating

Check the vehicle's safety rating.

3. Dealers licence search

Search for a licensed car dealer.

4. Motor vehicle search

Conduct a quick Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) search. A PPSR search checks for financial interests, written off records and stolen vehicles.

5. Report unlicensed dealers

Report unlicensed motor vehicle dealing in the community to consumer@dmirs.wa.gov.au or 1300 304 054.
