This publication is a summary of the Transport Workers (General) Award.

The Area and Scope and Definition clauses of the Transport Workers (General) Award have been updated effective from 7 October 2024 to expand the coverage of the award.

The award will now more broadly cover employers and employees in the road transport and distribution industry which includes:

• transport by road of all types of goods, wares, merchandise and materials
• transport of livestock, petrol and new or used vehicles
• furniture removalists and newspaper delivery
• drivers working for florists, nurseries, laundries and/or dry cleaners
• cartage contractors, milk vendors and dairy suppliers
• bread carting and mobile food vending

This WA award summary applies to businesses in the state industrial relations system. It covers businesses (and their employees) that operate as:

• sole traders 
• unincorporated partnerships 
• unincorporated trust arrangements 
• incorporated associations and other non-profit bodies that are not trading or financial corporations

This summary does not cover businesses and organisations in the national industrial relations system which operate as:

• Pty Ltd businesses that are trading or financial corporations 
• incorporated associations and other not-for-profit bodies that are trading or financial corporations
