A wild fire occurred at Location 1434, South Coast Highway, about 42 km west of Esperance, on 15 December 2004. EnergySafety carried out an investigation into the cause of the fire and determined that the fire started when a 33 kV blue phase conductor clashed with the under-slung running earth conductor, releasing burning metal particles that fell to the ground and ignited dry harvest stubble.
