About the Board

The Board is established under the Building Services (Registration) Act 2011 (the Act) and is comprised of  nine members: a Chairperson, two members with knowledge and experience in representing the interests of consumers and two members from each of the building, building surveying and painting industry groups.

The Board’s main functions are to administer the building services occupations registration scheme; monitor qualification and training issues; advise the Minister for Commerce on matters relating to regulation; and make decisions on investigations and disciplinary matters.

Appointment to the Board is a unique opportunity to bring your knowledge and experiences to contribute to the regulation of the occupations prescribed in the Act and to uphold the integrity of the building industry within the wider community.

The Board meets monthly and meetings are for a full day, usually in the second or third week of the month. It is a pre requisite of the role that members are required to undertake pre-reading prior to attending each meeting. Building and Energy staff provide administrative support to the Board and meetings are held at their premises in Cannington.

Board members currently receive remuneration unless they are on the public payroll, including all current full time State, Commonwealth and Local Government employees; Members of Parliament; current and retired judicial officers; and current non-academic employees of public academic institutions. Board members are generally appointed for a term of two or three years and are appointed by the Minister for Commerce.
