New appointment to spearhead consumer issues in the Goldfields
- Bouyden McKenzie takes up position in Consumer Protection’s Kalgoorlie office
- His experience in supporting and educating the community useful in new role
- Department’s presence in the region increases ability to deal with local issues
Consumer Protection has appointed a new senior regional officer in Kalgoorlie to service the Goldfields region which covers an area as far as Northam, Esperance and remote communities north of Leonora and Laverton.
Bouyden McKenzie previously worked for the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder as a Senior Indigenous Field Support Officer and has lived and worked in the town for most of his life. His Council role involved liaison and the education of the Aboriginal communities in the region in the areas of housing and health, often in partnership with other state and federal agencies.
Bouyden believes his experience in supporting and educating the local community will equip him well to deal with issues he will face in his new role.
“I am very passionate about improving the lives of people in the Goldfields region, particularly those who are regarded as vulnerable,” Bouyden says.
“Being able to help resolve consumer issues relating to retail disputes, tenancy matters or scams, among others, will be very satisfying for me and I look forward to serving the community I love.
“Having lived and worked in the Goldfields for most of my life gives me a unique insight into what’s important to the locals and to know the problems that require a greater focus for regulators.”
Commissioner for Consumer Protection Lanie Chopping said the appointment of Bouyden to the Kalgoorlie office is a demonstration of the Consumer Protection’s commitment to regional WA.
“Having a local presence in regional areas means that we have our ear to ground and can react quickly to any local issues that may arise and provide a more personal service to regional consumers,” Ms Chopping said.
“Bouyden’s background in supporting the community and changing behaviours through education and training will equip him well for Consumer Protection work and we look forward to witnessing his future achievements as Senior Regional Officer for the Goldfields.”
The Kalgoorlie office is one of six Consumer Protection regional offices in WA. People are welcome to attend the office at the corner of Hunter and Broadwood Streets,
West Kalgoorlie, or email email@example.com or call (08) 9021 9494.
