This announcement is for:
ConsumerAboriginal
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people invited to share their experiences and issues they have had with buying goods and services in Western Australia
  • Data will help to inform campaigns to empower people to know their consumer rights and identify unlawful conduct that needs to be investigated
  • Survey open to people aged 16 years and over, and closes 30 June 2023

The Aboriginal Consumers Count Survey is now open, inviting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 16 and over to share their experiences with buying goods and services.

The aim of the survey is to give Consumer Protection a greater understanding of issues that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are facing and to help identify unlawful conduct by traders which can be investigated.

The data captured from the survey will help to inform the development of engaging and educational campaigns to empower people to know their consumer rights, what to do when things go wrong and how to protect themselves from scams.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in WA are encouraged to share their experiences and issues with buying goods, such as motor vehicles, and services, such as renting a home or lawn mowing.

Consumer Protection provides free advice and information to Western Australian consumers about housing, shopping, motor vehicles, scams and product safety and is able to help consumers resolve disputes with businesses, investigate complaints about unfair trading practices and prosecute unlicensed traders.

It's important to hear directly from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout WA, so Consumer Protection can ensure its services are appropriate and accessible, and develop targeted educational campaigns that can be delivered throughout the State.

To have your voice heard, take the survey by visiting the Consumer Protection website at http://www.dmirs.wa.gov.au/accs. It closes on Friday, 30 June 2023.

For more information and advice, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can contact Consumer Protection by emailing askus@demirs.wa.gov.au or by calling 1300 30 40 54.
