Motor Vehicle Repairers' Licensing Kit

In Western Australia the Motor Vehicle Repairers Act 2003 says: 

  • If you operate a motor vehicle repair business you must hold a Motor Vehicle Repair Business Licence (MRB). 
  • Individuals wishing to carry out classes of repair work on or to motor vehicles are required to hold a Motor Vehicle Repairer's Certificate.

Motor vehicle repair business licence or motor vehicle repairer's certificate: what's the difference?

Are you:
  • the owner of a motor vehicle repair business?
  • a self-employed motor vehicle repairer?
  • the operator of a mobile repair business?
  • an employer of a certified repairer who supervises repair work?

 

If you answered "yes" to any of the questions above, you need a motor vehicle repair business licence

 Do you:
  • own a repair business and do repair work?
  • supervise the repair work of others?
  • work under a supervisor who does not have a certificate for the same class of repair work as you?
  • do repair work unsupervised?

 

If you answered "yes" to any of the questions above, you need a motor vehicle repairer's certificate

Motor Vehicle Repair Business Licence (MRB)

To obtain a motor vehicle repair business licence

  • Ensure you have an appropriate premises from which to operate. 
  • Download the application for a motor vehicle repair business licence and complete all relevant sections of the form. 
  • Provide the relevant police check(s), which are not more than three (3) months old at the time of lodgement, for all partners/directors or the sole trader. Only police checks issued by  our list of approved providers will be accepted.
  • Attach/pay the correct fee. This is payable at the time of lodging the application.
  • Check to make sure that the application form is complete and that you have provided all relevant supporting documents.
